EP 178: The Art of Bouncing Back
Have you ever felt like one spiritual misstep defined your entire journey with God? That shame and disappointment after a moral failure meant you could never truly recover? These feelings are universal, yet rarely addressed in our churches and communities.
Pastor B tackles this crucial aspect of faith head-on in a compassionate exploration of spiritual resilience. At the heart of this episode lies a powerful truth: Jesus has secured our eternal victory, but our daily walk still includes battles both won and lost. The difference between relationship and fellowship with God becomes a vital distinction—sin may temporarily break our fellowship, but through Christ, our relationship remains eternally secure.
When we stumble, the enemy whispers condemnation, urging us to hide in shame. Yet Scripture offers a radically different response: "Come boldly to the throne of grace" (Hebrews 4:16). God's mercy exists precisely for our moments of failure. Like the prodigal's father scanning the horizon, God doesn't wait to condemn us but eagerly watches for our return.
Drawing from Micah 7:8—"Though I fall, I will rise"—Pastor B reminds us that our current defeat is never the end of our story. The very ability to get up after falling demonstrates that grace continues working in our lives. Your bounce back isn't just possible; it's promised.
Ready to transform how you respond to spiritual setbacks? This episode provides practical wisdom for moving beyond shame into the fullness of God's restoration. Subscribe, share with someone wrestling with disappointment, and remember—the best part of your story might just come after your greatest fall.

If you're watching via youtube, make sure that you subscribe and hit the notification bell. That way, you have first dibs to any episodes that drop on my channel, right? So one thing in the Christian faith that I think we don't really teach people is we don't teach people how to bounce back after a loss, a loss, how to bounce back after difficulty and how to navigate life through self-inflicted wounds as well as just losses in the spiritual walk. Right, not every day is a day filled with victory. Not every day is a day of triumph. There will come a time when we make mistakes, there will come a time when our expectations of God and the expectations of ourselves are not realized. And so what do we do when we lose a battle? Does that mean that we are fully defeated or do we have the opportunity to bounce back? And so today's episode, that's what we're going to kind of deal with today that a bounce back is necessary, all right. One thing that we know that Jesus Christ, he has secured our eternal victory. Right, so we are victorious in terms of our position in God, and that sin no longer has the ability to overtake us and to win the ultimate battle, which is over our spiritual souls. Right, therefore, we are secure in, but as we live from day to day, there are times when we sin, when we make mistakes, when we overestimate ourselves and our abilities and we go into territories, we go into arenas that we're not fully prepared for. Right, sometimes we go in hubris. Right. And then those circumstances allow us to learn a very real lesson that we must rely on God, right. And so one thing I know is that whenever we do sin.
Speaker 1:Whenever we do make a mistake, satan is right there in our ears, trying to condemn us, trying to shame us, trying to embarrass us and convince us to throw in the towel. Right, the enemy wants us to hide, he wants us to run away, he wants us to isolate and seclude ourselves in shame and embarrassment. Right, because many times, we elevate ourselves in a way that I think can be unhealthy, whereas we are supposed to be ambassadors for God, whereas we are supposed to represent him. We will never, ever be perfect, and so sometimes, due to our positions, due to our, to the status that we hold, we may feel shame and embarrassment with the mistakes that we make. Right, and so the enemy will try to add extra shame by saying hey, you are a preacher, you have these, these responsibilities. No one who is truly, who truly loves God, would ever do this. How can you ever go back? Those people will never listen to you, those people, they will shame you, slander you. Can't you hear what they're saying about you? God doesn't love you anymore. These are the lies that the enemy will try to tell us whenever we have lost a battle, made a mistake that causes us to temporarily break in fellowship with God. Right, because that's what sin does. Sin breaks our fellowship with God. Through Jesus Christ, our relationship is always secure, but sometimes our fellowship is broken with sin and we have to repent. Right. But the one thing you have to remember you can even tell yourself and declare this that I may have made a mistake, I may have lost this battle, but I am not abandoned. Right, god still loves me, I am still his child and I will always be redeemable.
Speaker 1:Romans 8 and 38 says there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. He even goes through a list of worst case scenarios right, peril, death, nakedness, right, and all of these things, all of these things that we listed. The relationship with God that he has with us, it is secure. Our overarching victory is secure. We're more than conquerors, right. Shame doesn't have the ability to overtake and change the story. At the end, we really do win. Right.
Speaker 1:So we must know that our mistakes don't cancel out God's love. Right, that's number one. Number two we can't give in to the temptation to isolate. Right, we should run to God, not away from him. Right. Hebrews 4 and 16 tells us to to come boldly to the throne of grace. Right, so that we can find help and grace in time of need. Right, there is mercy, is there for a reason. Mercy is there for a reason. The mercy of God. It exchanges the punishment that we deserve, deserve, and gives us the righteousness of God. Okay, so don't run from God. God sees it, he knows right, but he's not going to condemn us, he's not going to turn us away.
Speaker 1:I know, last week I talked about the chosen TV show, but I mean one of the things I thought was really, really interesting, the Carrie, the character of Mary Mary of Magdala. The character of Mary Mary of Magdala, she is the one who was filled with demons and Jesus cast out the demons out of her and she wrestled for many seasons with her past Right. And one of the things that she kind of showcased really, really well is how we struggle with worthiness, how we struggle with feeling that we have to, on our own, live up to the call of God, live up to maintaining our goodness, so to speak. And one of the things that she did was she felt so unworthy that she went back to her previous life. She went back to those familiar circles and people that she hung around with at first. And what? Andrew, one of the disciples came and told her, was like Jesus loves you.
Speaker 1:He doesn't see you as someone who's irredeemable. Right, he is calling and beckoning you back to him. He will never abandon you, and it is natural for us to want to isolate and hide and run from God Just because of, sometimes, one battle. We have a track record of God's faithfulness and us obeying the Lord, and sometimes, whenever we fall back into some of our previous patterns, the enemy wants to hold us hostage there. Right, but we should run to God. Right, the name of the Lord is a strong tower. Right, the righteous run in and are safe Right.
Speaker 1:So each day, we should tell the Lord Lord, I'm coming back to you. I'm returning back to you that there is nothing that I can do that can separate you from your love. So I am coming back to you, all, right. And then the last thing that I want us to kind of focus on is, although I may have had a misstep and I lost an individual battle, victory is still available. Victory is coming. I will see the goodness of the Lord right in the land of the living, the victory that Jesus won for us. It isn't canceled out, right. So it's time for us to get up, right, the bounce back I talked about earlier. It's time for us to actualize that and to realize and to pursue that again Right, instead of staying down and being defeated. Now is the time for us to pursue the bounce back. The bounce back right. Jesus has already won it for us, it's available for us, but we have to go and run and pursue it. All right, don't allow shame to paralyze you. Get up and experience your bounce back right.
Speaker 1:In Micah, there's an interesting verse in chapter 7, verse 8, that says though I fall, I will rise. Right, we were not meant to waste away in shame and condemnation. Right, there is a forward momentum. There is a place that we need to get to in our walk with God, in our relationship with God, that the pity and the pouting of our president will never get there if we don't get up and usher your bounce back. Usher our bounce back. All right, it's.
Speaker 1:This current situation, this current defeat, is not all there is. There is life on the other side. There's hope, there's joy, there's peace, there's freedom All of these things that you dreamed of, all of these things that you think you've relinquished due to falling and letting people down, letting God down. It's not the final say. God has the final say and he wants you to know that it's going to be greater later. But we have to get up, we have to rise and we have to. We have to see our bounce back.
Speaker 1:Right, I'll leave you with this. Getting up from your mistakes is the evidence that grace is still working in your life. The fact that you can still hear the voice of God calling you, the fact that you come to yourself like the prodigal son and you head back home where you're well taken care of, that is a realization that God has not left you, that he's not abandoned you, that he is standing on the hillside waiting, looking for his prodigal son, his prodigal daughter, to come home. God's looking for you, he's cheering you on and when he sees you, when you get up, he's going to run to you and say, son or daughter, welcome home, thank you for coming back home, all right. So always remember, always remember that you may have lost a battle, you may have disappointed yourself and even disappointed God, but you're not defeated. God still loves you, he still wants you to be close to him. You are still his right. Get up, rise and pursue the bounce back and I believe that the rest of your days will be better than your former days. All right, well, listen, that's today's episode. Thank you again for tuning in.
